This bronze sculpture was created by Paul-Maximilien Landowski, a French sculptor of Polish origin, in 1900 and earned the artist the Prix de Rome.

The sculpture was bought in 1921 by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Busch Thorne, and was offered to the Town of Temiscaming by Mrs. Thorne in 1959.

Mr. Carl Busch Thorne, an engineer of Norwegian origin, directed the construction of the town of Temiscaming and its pulp mill. He and his wife were great art enthusiasts and patrons. Throughout the years, they endowed the Town of Temiscaming with several works of art: a fountain surmounted by the god Neptune, a Venetian well, a marble statue entitled “Printemps,” a painting of the Holy Family as well as the statue of David fighting Goliath.

In Temiscaming, the fountain and Venetian well adorn Kipawa Road, while the marble statue is located inside the Town Hall and the statue of David stands proudly outside the building.
